Serious wind, downpour, sunshine, repeat. Luna Bell and I can’t keep up with this weather.

Is it too much to ask for some sunshine and warmth this weekend? I have the Green City Market and a Cubs game to go to!

Soldier Field 10 Miler

Saturday was the 10th Annual Soldier Field 10 Miler, a race noted for its finish in the 50 yard line of Soldier Field. That alone makes it a pretty awesome race and the views of Lake Michigan and the skyline aren’t too bad either.

But the real reason to run the Soldier Field 10 Miler is the incredible tribute it pays to our armed forces. The significance of the run beginning and ending at a place built to honor WWI vets. The reading of the names of our servicemen running. The presenting of flags flown over the field to family members of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The playing of taps and singing of our national anthem. It all brings the focus of what Memorial Day means right to the forefront. It’s a day to celebrate, honor and appreciate and I am so grateful for the opportunity to do that alongside the running community while pounding the pavement for 10 miles.

God bless our troops, past, present and future.

Scenes from a Holiday Weekend

We had guests in town from Maryland which basically meant this weekend was a high speed chase to squeeze in as much Chicago as possible. Never ones to turn down anything touristy, Ryan and I gladly showed them Soldier Field (where they saw me finish a 10 mile run on the 50 yard line-more on that later), the aquarium, the Architecture Tour, the Bean and Wrigley Field. We ate deep dish, had cocktails at the top of the Hancock, and went to a rooftop BBQ in Lincoln Park. I know every day how much I love my city but weekends like this where we seek out landmarks make me so grateful to live somewhere I adore so much.

Related: the older I get, the worse I am with heights. I tried to keep cool in the Hancock Tower elevator (omg, so damn fast) and while waiting for a table (did you just feel the building sway?) and when we were seated at a table by the window (nothing available further away from the glass?) but real talk: 96 floors is really effing high and a dirty vodka martini could not have showed up quickly enough.

Walked through this archway ‘o America on my way out of O’Hare last night and it felt very appropriate considering Memorial Day is on Monday. Happy Holiday weekend, friends!

Flywheel Dallas…y’all

I’ve been in Dallas for work this week and in addition to cowboy hats, Texas flags and queso, I got to experience Flywheel Dallas! I love Flywheel in general and I am obsessed with checking out studios in other cities. Atlanta 2 weeks ago, Dallas today, both great classes with tons of energy (and sweat). I would have loved some country music or yee-haws in class today to really feel authentic but it was great.

Flywheel Dallas, y’all!

Iced to Meet You

My love of David’s Tea is well documented and their tins of amazing tea, in large part, got me through this frigid winter. And now, it looks like David’s Tea is going to be my summer jam too. Ryan was in Lincoln Park and brought home a summer sampler (and a tin of Forever Nuts, my favorite) as a little Saturday treat and we took to making iced tea immediately. Iced Tropicalia, Iced Mint Julep, Iced Coconut Grove…all refreshingly delicious and I can’t wait to try the other 2.

Iced to meet you, indeed!

This place is going to be my summer jam.

I hate DIY but I can get behind this lavender soda.

I say it every year but this is the summer we hit the water.

We don’t live in NYC (or Paris- PDA capital of the world) but Ryan and I are hand holding, public kissers, for sure.

If you want to have a weathervane next to your doorway, DO IT and other learnings from Holly Golightly’s apartment.

Bright Pink is an amazing organization and with Angelina Jolie’s announcement this week, they have been able to reach millions with their life saving message and tools. Assess your risk.
