Days Like Today Are My Best Friend

Luna Bell faked an injury, Ryan had to submit a last minute job app, we got on a bus that did not take us on Inner Lake Shore but all the way up to freaking Belmont…to say we got a late start to the day is an understatement.  But we finally made it to the Green City Market, finally got an order of apple cider donuts and finally had some coffee.

And then we looked up.

It is Fall.  So perfectly, crisply Fall.

Lincoln Park was packed with people with sweaters and jackets on.  Babies were bundled to a fault, and there was a lot more hugging and snuggling going on- it’s cold, people gotta stay warm!

We walked all the way home, holding hands and our bags filled to the brim with straight from the farm goodness.

Days like today are my best friend.

Green City Market Love

The Green City Market is possibly my favorite thing on the planet.  My deal with myself is that I bring a $20 and then that’s it- it’s not cheap farm fresh goods but going from vendor to vendor, sampling raspberries and cheese, smelling fresh herbs and seeing tomatoes in all colors of the rainbow is just to awesome to pass up.

Today, we met this guy:

Paul Friday, creator if Flamin’ Fury peaches.  Paul made genetic crosses of different peaches and eventually created the best peaches in the world.  I’m not kidding you- I have never tasted a peach like this before.  The name “Flamin’ Fury” is from his two red headed grandchildren…one of whom has grown up and was working alongside her grandfather this morning.  So cool!

Flamin’ Fury peaches, Green City Market, mint-infused chamomile tea, 2 puppy spottings.  Chicago summer Saturdays…it doesn’t really get any better.

First Green City Market Visit of the Season

Excuse the less-than-stellar quality pictures but this morning was my first Green City Market experience of the season!

My friend Bridget sent me a text last night with the offer of yoga followed by a trip to our local, sustainable farmer’s market.  That, by definition, is my version of a perfect Saturday morning so cold weather be damned- I grabbed my yoga mat and reusable shopper and headed up to Lincoln Park.

Not much is in season yet but I did score some blue potatoes, a yellow tomato, asparagus, and a big portobello mushroom cap.

Did you even know BLUE potatoes existed?  I sure didn’t but I’m thinking roasting them with a little olive oil and rosemary is just the ticket.

Also, one farmer had the loveliest assortment of cream, blue and GREEN eggs!

Yoga and the Green City Market– I smell a Saturday morning ritual coming on…
