Fingers Crossed

We put an offer in on a condo this weekend. It’s amazing and exciting and also makes us want to throw up. I always thought that when I went to buy a house, it would be all “Here’s my money” and the owners would go “omg, thank you Nina!” and that would be that. Instead, there’s competition, offer deadlines and waiting on pins and needles to see if this dream home, a place where we can see ourselves putting down long term roots, is really going to become ours.

Ryan and I got home after our millionth walk this evening (sitting still is impossible!) and I had received this picture in a text from my Dad. He and my step-mom literally have their fingers crossed for good news for us and I received similar sentiments from my mom and best friends today. It’s pretty awesome to know that condo or no condo, we have people in our corner rooting for us. It’s actually better than getting the house- we have our home team and that makes us the luckiest people in the world.

However, if we DO get the condo, we can invite everyone to uncross their fingers and come over to our bamf new rooftop deck for celebratory bubbly. Just sayin’.

FINGERS CROSSED!

City Surf

I need to do things I am terrible at more often.

It’s not often that one actively seeks sucking at things but after an hour at City Surf in Dallas yesterday, I recognized I need that way more often. I love group fitness classes and am always down to try something new so when I learned some co-friends (co-worker friends) and I had boards reserved at City Surf, I was psyched. I also thought we were going to be in a large tank with water until the moment we walked in. Surfing, no water- what?

Boards balance on balls that are stationary but allow for a large range of motion so that board is tipsy. The super lithe instructor led us through an hour of jumping, paddling, crunching, squatting, you name it, all on this board…and all while trying to not fall off. Which was largely unsuccessful by yours truly. The class was killer for your core because it has to be engaged to stay on that damn thing and it was even more amazing for my little heart. I don’t consider myself silly or hyper by any means but after an hour of falling and laughing so hard, I could barely contain myself. For the rest of the night, I was in stitches with my co-friends about the crazy fun spectacle that was surf-working out and as one of our new friends said “Instead of Jesus Take the Wheel, Jesus Take the Surfboard.” Truer words have never been spoken, as proven by the bruise I just found on my leg.

Uncontrollable laughter, energy and a killer sweat- best hour of being terrible ever.

Tuesday Brain Dump

I am smack dab in the middle of what I consider busy season in my job. I love the work I do and I am so lucky to do it and I genuinely forgot to shower today. And eat yesterday until 3pm. And have been consistently having work dreams for about 3 weeks, to the point where Ryan says I have been mumbling about emails in my sleep.

So there’s that.

I think it’s a good thing though, being so consumed with work, in terms of wedding planning. I’ve heard women say how when they got engaged, all they did at work was look at Pinterest and want to wedding plan. 1) I still think Pinterest is ridiculous and is breeding ground for copycats and unoriginality and 2) since my work time is my work time, my time to think wedding is so concentrated and separate that it’s fun and really efficient. This is another conversation for another time but in the last year or so, I’ve developed a zero-tolerance policy for when something doesn’t feel like a good fit or I am not being treated well and that includes wedding venues sooooo we made a switcheroo. People weren’t rocking our world at the original place we chose and there’s a new place in town with killer river views…done and done. Our 5 prong filter is working and once we secure a location for the ceremony, we’re in pretty good shape for awhile. #naptime

Luna Bell loves sitting on whatever magazine/iPad/important document you have been looking at but I think she especially loves blocking wedding magazines.

Oh and I got a FitBit and am OBSESSED.

That pretty much sums up my life right now- work, wedding, LB sitting on stuff, FitBit. I am going to try to not be such a deadbeat blogger now.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

I am far more excited than I should be for people I 100% do not know but c’mon- how adorbs was Will and Kate’s little press conference? Just regular, excited, brand new parents.

Whose kid is actually a little prince. Whoa.

And speaking of, The Little Prince is one of my very favorite books. “Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.” I hope Kate remembered to register for it.

You know those weekends that are so simply great that Monday comes and you spend a decent part of the day questioning why the weekend is over and why can’t fun weekends like that last forever and why is it Monday already dammit? Yeah. That.

Highlights included the Sheffield Garden Walk with friends we have a blast with and do not see often enough, followed by Pequod’s and a Sunday spent at the beach. Add in a few good runs, errands and even some sleeping in and you pretty much have my best weekend ever. I’m excited about the upcoming week now but man, weekends occupied with music, pizza, beach and love are hard to leave behind.

And c’mon-Pequod’s? I love love love Pequod’s and hate hate hate that their delivery radius is like 2 square blocks. Our friend Allison is gorgeously 9 months pregnant and we sent the leftovers home with her and her cool husband…it was the right thing to do but man- Ry and I sure wished we had cold Pequod’s the following morning.

Yay- it’s Saturday!

The storm last night brought some relief from the heat and it’s a gorgeous day for going to the market, spending some time at the pool/beach and hitting up a street festival or two- all things that are on our agenda. Summer is the best and summer in Chicago…it’s my absolute favorite.

It always feels great to be home but after spending the last 4 days in 2 places that were actually chilly (FL & TX), home and this heat feel exceptionally amazing.

Happy Hump Day, friends!
