Perfect Saturday

It’s mid-October and 70 degrees outside today. Chicagoans, now is the time to spend all day outside- go for walks, run on the lake, maybe do some day drinking in a beer garden- and tuck this day away in the memory bank to bring out when it’s frigid in February. Winter is coming but it ain’t here today. Today is perfect.

Happy Saturday, friends.

Since I haven’t been able to eat anything in the last 48 hours without, um, consequences, I have been bookmarking important food related things for when the flu has left the building. Like this list of 12 whiskey and food pairings.

And this grown up grilled cheese.

And definitely these No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites.

The second our household gets healthy, this kitchen is going to work.

Weekend in Plus & Minus

Weekend in + & -.

– Ryan’s marathon of working ridiculously late hours continued on Friday and Saturday night.
+ I had time to myself to relax after a very full work week.
– Wayfair told me on Friday that it would be until next week before they could fix the bed issue.
+ We got to try out the new sleeper sofa in the guest room and it is unreal- like a Care Bear cloud of comfort. Well done, Room & Board!
+ After a very sad face email I sent on Friday night, Wayfair finally came through and sent a furniture medic. Problem fixed in 30 minutes and we now can sleep in our bed.
+ Going to David’s Tea is an activity in and if itself. Selected some new tins AND learned that Forever Nuts can be put in oatmeal. #genius
+ I found an amazing wall of frames at Room & Board that I bought for our dining room.
– By the time I got home, I realized that was an absurd amount of money to spend on frames and cancelled the order.
+ & – All meals made at home.
+ Anthropologie has an entire dress of cats. Cat print, to be more specific.
+ Great run with Ry on a most beautiful Sunday morning.

It’s been pretty chill in these parts, which is great because it was apparently preparing us for the flu. Ryan started with it last night and as of the last 2 hours, it looks like I’m down for the count too. Here’s to lots of fluids, shared blankets, sleep and body aches to go away quickly…

What’s the saying? The couple that has the flu together, stays together?

On the Government Shutdown

I’m convinced the government shut down because no one told Aaron Samuels Obama that he looks sexy with his hair pushed back. It was also October 3rd this past week. Finding this pic just proves that the shutdown is just like Mean Girls.

I am also willing to bet that Karen knew this was coming because of her ESPN. Also, I want my pink shirt back. And by pink shirt, I mean taxes.

The Absolute Worst

When the going get tough, the tough get tweeting. Or at least that’s the route my rage stroke took me today. Damaged product, a delivery that took 30 days only to arrive with missing parts…I am leaving on a business trip right now but I highly doubt Ryan is going to appreciate sleeping on the floor because we don’t have a functioning bed.

Sleeping on the floor may be a bit dramatic. I imagine he’ll sleep on the couch.

But Wayfair is still the absolute worst

(End rant.)

Wedding Dream

I had a wedding nightmare last night.

I dreamt that I was 3 hours from Chicago on the morning of my wedding, missed my hair appointment, the lady who did it gave me an updo, I was late to the ceremony, no one was there when I got there, there were no flowers and I didn’t get married. Totally sucked.

The truth is, the only problem in that dream is the no ceremony part- all I care about is actually getting married on my wedding day. Lord knows I have done important things with my hair busted before and I happen to love the flowers from Trader Joe’s. This whole engagement thing has been a blast and wedding planning has been chill and from what I can tell, there’s nothing to “do” for a few months. But this dream weirded me out and makes me think this chillness is out of character for me (which it is) and I should go micro-manage something.

Save the dates went out, so that’s something. I love paper goods.

Maybe I’ll go be annoying about flowers. Keep you posted.
