I love the song “Royals” and Florida State’s womens a cappella group nails it.

Jackie Kennedy’s iconic pink suit has been in hiding and will be for almost 100 more years. Interesting article about the strong, stylish First Lady.

Theo the Dog and Beau the Toddler are almost enough to make you want a baby, puppy and nap. Almost.

I cannot wait for Eataly to open.

I died laughing reading about this guy who live tweeted a breakup that was happening on his rooftop in Brooklyn. I sent it to my friend Renee and it turns out he is one of her best friends. Small world and holy cow, this guy is hilarious.

We are going to a Friendsgiving on Saturday so I am doing a test run of this pumpkin bread pudding to see if it makes the cut for next Thursday.

Reset Button

I sent Ryan a link to this article last week about small adjustments you can make to your day to optimize your happiness/success. One of those things is hitting your internal reset button- just because your day started out bad doesn’t mean the entire day is shot. I thought “Man, Ryan will really like this, what great suggestions for him.”

You know how the advice you give other people is 9 times out of 10 what you need to tell yourself? Yeah. That.

When going downstairs to sign for a FedEx package, I locked myself out of the condo. It’s been an accident waiting to happen and, thank God, it happened today while I was wearing slippers and had my phone in my hand. With no money, I relied on Uber (again, thank goodness) to get me a cab to bring me to Ryan’s office to get his keys to bring me back home. In my slippers. One round trip later and I am home in time for a work call…and promptly began throwing up for the next 30 minutes because apparently my motion sickness problem isn’t just at night and isn’t just on trains and planes…I also get car sick in the middle of the day. After having been in a cab IN MY SLIPPERS. How I feel about my inner germaphobe is a post for a different day but let’s just say I was less than thrilled to take my house-only slippers in a cab and not have time to wash my hands after exiting the cab before I starting getting sick. Gross.

I was ready to throw in the towel and call the whole day bad when I remembered that article I send Ryan and thought about that reset button. It was only 4pm and my to-do list wasn’t any shorter. I could let a lockout and motion sickness hell keep me from feeling good about the rest of my day or I could hit reset and get some shit done. Hit reset and get over it.

So I did.

And you know, it was much better than the alternative. Reset button, indeed.

Jeni’s Ice Cream

I’m going full tilt on pie this year.

A few weeks ago, I decided to place an order for Thanksgiving pies somewhere, giving up after a few years of mediocre (at best) apple and pumpkin attempts. Baking is my thing and I got discouraged. But I am letting going of my story that I’m incapable and I’m going all out- homemade crust, not skimping in sugar…and in case that fails, Jeni’s Ice Cream.

This place opened at the beginning of cold weather season in Chicago and has had a line out the door until 11pm every night. We could only go “It’s cold, who wants ice cream?” and “how good could it really be?” so many times and on our way home from dinner last night, Ryan and I stopped in to decide for ourselves.

My god.

Now I understand why when I went to Columbus, OH for work people lost their shit telling me about Jeni’s. It’s unbelievable. Should have skipped dinner unbelievable. We went with a
scoop of the sweet corn & black berry and their special vanilla but with unlimited samples, I can assure you that they’re all ridiculously good. Sweet, creamy and real– all local cream and milk and produce.

So the moral of my story is this: I am masking my fear of making another year of so-so pies with Jeni’s Ice Cream because truthfully, after a scoop or two of the Cinderella Pumpkin or Ndali Estate Vanilla Bean, no one will be talking about my Thanksgiving pies anyways. Everybody wins.

One Day HH

Over on Instagram today, I am participating in the Hollywood Housewife’s One Day project, documenting those little things that happen in our everyday lives that might not make the cut in texts we send our loved ones or the blog or regular Instagram feed. Life happens in moments that aren’t picture perfect or planned, imagine that. Follow along with me- NinaintheChi!

Here’s the first pic I posted today. I start almost everyday with a long walk. It’s my time to gather my thoughts, call my Dad, listen to music and get fresh air in my lungs. A few mornings a week, Ryan and I get up early so we can get out together. It’s just something that really lets me feel like I already have something under my belt before I start my day.

Today, I saw the beginnings of Christmas cheer on my walk and it made me happy. Especially since I was listening to A Charlie Brown Christmas…actually, is the Vince Guaraldi Trio even considered Christmas music? It’s just really good jazz in my book, therefore available for year ’round listening.

Happy Hump Day, friends.

9:10 on 11/12/13. I don’t know if I would go as far as to get married at that exact moment but it’s kind of a cool timing to acknowledge.

Did anyone see this couple get married on the Today Show? They looked SO incredibly nervous, I was nervous for them!

Monday Brain Dump

So, it snowed today. I was kinda into it. Cozy.

I know I am a million years late to this but dry shampoo?! Amazing. I had zero expectations of my hair after my massage at Exhale today but a few sprays of the dry shampoo in the changing room and my limp, aromatherapy oiled hair was back in the game.

I was at a seminar for work all. weekend. long. and I am exhausted today. Sitting for hours shouldn’t tire you but man. A 9pm bedtime sounds reasonable.

Why are people still talking about Miley Cyrus? Have we never seen child have a meltdown before?

Flywheel is my everything.

I want to get my mom a kitten for Christmas.

I have every outfit for every social function we are attending from now until December 30th planned, including a detailed a shopping list for dates that have “buy something new” under them. See aforementioned work seminar.

We went to the loveliest wedding reception recently, for the loveliest couple. I literally cannot wait for our wedding.

I also literally cannot wait for next weekend.

Happy Monday to all and to all a good night.

Table Setting 101

I cannot for the life of me remember the proper way to set a table, no matter how many times my step-mom has told me (sorry, K!). For years, it’s been phone calls to her asking what side the knife goes on so hopefully this cheat sheet will help. This came just in time because we are entertaining a lot in the next 2 months. Forks on the left, forks on the left…
