Big Metal Chickens 2.0

I still read The Bloggess’ post on Big Metal Chickens every few days, just to keep belly laughing.

My bff Holly and I dismiss most problems by saying that we wouldn’t even be having this conversation if Beyonce was towels.

So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this glorious hunk of metal at the Eastern Market in Washington, DC this weekend:

Moments after finding this gem of a big metal chicken, this appeared in my email inbox:

The Atlanta Big Metal Chicken!

It’s like learning a new word- once you learn a new word, you see it everywhere. And who knew Big Metal Chickens were everywhere?!

I can see where my apartment is today but in 1950…nothing.  The Windy City used to be so…flat.  We’ve come (and built) a long way!

The Coffee Studio- Andersonville

I ventured into a new neighborhood today with my friend Jill and in desperate need of some mid-day caffeine (and some long overdue catching up), we hit up her favorite coffee shop in the city, The Coffee Studio (5628 N. Clark Street).

With a brick facade and a cozy yet industrial feel on the inside, the Coffee Studio was definitely worth Jill’s praise.  And Andersonville itself was such a delightful ‘hood, full of interesting shops and a creative restaurants.  I want to go back on a weekend morning for some brunching and vintage shopping.

I’m so happy I branched out a bit today- this city is filled with amazing neighborhoods that are so easy to get to!

Happy Monday!

But You Can Buy Ice Cream…

I’m so happy to be back in Chicago but was feeling a little blue that Ryan is still in DC for work…then I had some soft serve with oreos and raspberries and felt better.

Ice cream and happiness really are almost the same thing.

I’m sorry for the silence but I’ve been in Washington DC for a few days visiting the boyfriend!

It’s been lovely…the Eastern Market, homemade poptarts, museum hopping, dinner in Georgetown… I can’t wait to tell you tales of a Chi Town Girl Goes to Washington!

Happy weekend, friends!

Dare to be Fit: Booty Camp

adminUncategorized%s Comments

Remember when I said I was doing a bootcamp to get ready for the Chicago marathon?

Well, I did.  And it was all sorts of awesome.

Michelle Cushing, the amazing Michelle Cushing, is the brains (and muscle) behind Dare to Be Fit, her venture to help people stay “healthy, emotionally wealthy and fit.”  Her passion is evident in how she runs her classes, be it pilates, yoga, or her famed booty camp.

Let me tell you something about booty camp: your booty is guaranteed to hurt after every single class.  Running around Lincoln Park, using various steps, benches and hills to get in a sweaty 60 minute workout will do that.  But any lasting memory of how hard the last workout is completely vanishes when you start seeing results.  After 5 weeks, I feel…stronger and totally ready to dive into marathon training.

Oh and there’s also something call “Build Your Own Burpees” which are super fun hard as hell and I love them don’t hate them that much (Michelle, are you happy now?).

The heat wave to hit Chicago has taken some of us inside for our workouts so here’s a link to Dare to Be Fit’s “Total Belly Meltdown“.  Click here for a core friendly workout that you can do in the comfort of your air conditioned abode.

Want to take it out into the elements?  Booty Camp is an amazing workout in an hour that flies by. Michelle is one of the best fitness professionals in the city, hands down.

Keep sweating it out, Chicago.
