Cocktails and a great charcuterie board at on the terrace at NoMI– a lovely way to enjoy this extra bit of summer we’re having…and the view was pretty lovely as well.

I couldn’t agree more- the couple who sweats together, stays together.

I was late to get on the Downton Abbey train but man, I am on board now. Can’t wait for January 4th!

Top 3 things about fall: college football, spiked apple cider and cozy sweaters.

As someone who constantly is seated by screaming children on planes, I don’t appreciate the tone of this article…and I love the idea of a child-free section.

I really love gummi bears- thanks Buzzfeed for these 21 fun facts.

This storm is coming in to cut this heat we’ve been having- to literally take summer away. Kinda incredible on Labor Day weekend, huh?

A Punch in the Face/Juice Bar Love

“The first sip feels like a punch in the face but everything after that is amazing!” said the juice bar owner I met this morning. Ohhh well then give me two!

As oddly as that interaction began, this juice of lemon, turmeric, agave, ginger root and cayenne was really great (after the initial punch, he was right about that). I am so grateful when I find places like this when I am on the road that serve healthy and whole food- putting crap in my body AND traveling so much sounds like a terrible idea.

Morning from Midway

It’s Tuesday and I’m already fantasizing about the weekend where I plan on exclusively reading September issues, laying by the pool and drinking iced tea. Nothing else. Nothing.

In other news, The Blues Brothers never cease to make me laugh, no matter how early my flight is. So that’s something. And it’s week 8 of 8 straight weeks of work travel and I didn’t have a breakdown outside of last week when I rented a car to drive to a market because I could not get on another plane so that’s also something. Actually, Tuesday ain’t lookin’ so bad.

But my eye is still on the pile of September issues I have at home…

Weekend Notes

Our life pretty much consists of work, work, work, condo, condo, condo. Weeks are flying by due to extra long hours at our respective jobs and every spare minute is devoted to getting things ready for the move into our new place next month. It’s been a lot of “I want to be there now” and this weekend was the perfect answer to that. A fun event at the Chicago History Museum on Friday night, a lovely al fresco lunch at Little Market where I had the best veggie burger of my life, time at the pool soaking in some long awaited perfect summer weather and an outstanding meal at Bavette’s where we took one look at a nearby tables seafood tower and decided that this was our celebration dinner. We toasted our future (and dug into our own seafood tower!) but in doing that, we really celebrated where we’ve been the last few years. Bavette’s sent us home with chocolate cream pie that we ate on our porch while watching the city go by below us and I couldn’t help but think that as excited as I am to move into all that’s coming next, right this second couldn’t get any sweeter.

I’ve been a runner for a long time but it’s only been recently where lacing up my shoes early in the morning and getting a few miles in before the day begins has become a thing. I look forward to the quiet and I look forward to going into my day having already accomplished something. And last week in Vancouver, where I had a 2 hour time difference on my side, I really looked forward to running as the sun came up. The sun was up, I was up and everything that comes after that was just going to be that much better after a little sweating on the lake path.
