And I Don’t Even Like Steak…

This is truly the greatest customer service story of all time.

My affection for Twitter is no secret and this is proof that it is pretty much second to none in terms of speed of communication.  Below is the story of a steakhouse (Morton’s), a man (Peter Shankman) and a porterhouse steak that really went the extra mile.

“As we were about to take off, I jokingly tweeted the following:

Let’s understand: I was joking. I had absolutely no expectations of anything from that Tweet. It’s like how we Tweet “Dear Winter, please stop, love Peter,” or something similar.

I shut off my phone and we took off.”

Like I said, I don’t even eat steak but this story makes me wants Morton’s to be my carnivorous haunt of choice.  Ryan is a steak person so maybe if he plays his cards right, a Morton’s trip is in his future…

In any case, I wish more companies recognized that good PR is only a good customer experience away…

Saturday Morning

adminUncategorized%s Comments

With a Spartan win in the books (high five!), this morning was free to grab coffee, our favorite reading material and spend some time in the park catching up on each other and happenings around the world and city.  Saturday mornings remind me even more why I’m so happy Ryan is back in Chicago full time.

Happy Saturday, indeed!

Game Day, Baby!

The last time we saw my beloved Spartans, they had just gotten their butts handed to them in a bowl game.  But it’s a brand new year (!!!) and kickoff against Youngstown State is at 6:30 CST.  There is nothing quite like football season to signal the start of fall and all things cozy, crispy and cider-y.  Cannot wait.

Go Green!

Bill and Giuliana Plus 1- a New River North Resto

Bill and Giuliana Rancic are opening an Italian restaurant in River North, taking over the Ben Pao space on East Illinois Street.  Outstanding.

(Editor’s Note:  A few weeks ago, my family and I were at Carmine’s having dinner when Bill showed up and was seated near us.  My Dad is THE Apprentice fan, even going as far as telling me when I moved to Chicago that I should just “call Bill”, he could help me get a job (“Dad, we don’t actually know Bill”).  Breaking bread with near Bill was the ultimate celebrity sighting for my Dad and with our love of people who love Chicago, no one is more excited to hear that Bill and Giuliana are opening an Italian restaurant.)

As I mentioned last week, the Magnificent Mile Shopping Festival is on!

I am not a huge reality tv show person (how on earth did all these Real Housewives get invites to anything in this Festival?  Gross.) but I do love me some Rachel Zoe Project…and therefore, I love me some Brad Goreski!  The man’s got chutzpah, impeccable taste and will be gracing the Windy City with his presence on Thursday evening!  From 6-9pm, Fashion’s Night Out will take over the 900 Shops with a flash fashion show, speciality cocktails, fashion bazaar, bites from your fav Gold Coast restos and Brad Goreski, himself.

So. Freaking. Jazzed.

Recipe: Mango Salsa

adminUncategorized%s Comments

When I think of the best meals I’ve ever had, they’ve been meals where you can list the ingredients on one hand.  After catching part of “Julie and Julia” on tv today and working myself into a tizzy about not evening owning “Mastering the Art of French Cooking“, I calmed the crazy down and set to making a simple Sunday meal.

Shrimp tacos with black beans, grilled peppers, onions and black beans.  The best part was the mango salsa- I love the pairing of fruit and seafood, such a fresh and summer-y combo.  And with the mango salsa having 4 ingredients in it, simple is practically its middle name.

Mango Salsa

Mango

Cilantro

Sweet Onion

1/2 lime

Chop ingredients, place in bowl, squeeze the lime over the contents and stir.

Simplicity, in life AND cooking…what a concept.
