On Rose Water and Kindness

Last week, I had one of those days that made me want to pull my hair out.  It was all I could do to not write a post titled “Here’s What/Who I think Are Morons and Here’s Why” (instead, you were treated to more ramblings about vegetables.  The moron post would have been funnier but less, um, appropriate).

Enter my friend Kate and rose water.

You see, Kate is growing a baby right now so I occasionally send her blog posts about baby growing that I think she might like.  It’s no secret that Emphasis Added is one of my favorite blogs and since its author recently had a baby, I knew Kate would love it as much as I do.

I was right.

Before she even heard about my day that spurred a thousand eye rolls, Kate had read a post on Emphasis Added about rose water and gone to Merz Apothecary in the Palmer House to pick up some of what Emphasis Added deemed her “can’t-live-without beauty product”.  And she gifted me with a bottle as well!

This was absolutely the best thing that happened to me on Friday.  It made me feel so taken care of on two levels.  1) Spritzing a little rose water on my face before I apply my moisturizer or on my pillow at night is the most delightful indulgence and 2) it was such a lovely act of kindness that what was irking me didn’t matter so much anymore- kindness trumps suckiness any day of the week.

To wrap it up: Heritage Rose Water.  In a blue glass spray bottle (because the Heritage bottle IS kinda busted).  Spritz everywhere.  The End.

Blog Crush: “The Champagne Bubble”

My favorite blogs are the ones that make me go “What a great idea!” and are often followed by “Why didn’t I think of that?”.  Example: FuckYeahChicago.  I am sad every day that I didn’t name my blog FuckYeahChicago.  Or “The Hotness Your Mama Warned You About“.  I mean, c’mon.

Today I stumbled upon something so smart, so original that it deserves a big high five.  The Champagne Bubble is rocking my socks off.  “Dinner and a Movie, with a classic twist” is its theme- she gives you a recipe, how-to photos included, and then pairs it with an appropriately themed movie!  There are so many food blogs out there but this one really takes the interweb cake.

I mean, do you even understand how much I love champagne cocktails?  And do you know how much I love the movie “Casablanca“?  Imagine my delight when I found a recipe for “The Apricot Nectar Mimosa” paired with “Casablanca”!  Perfection, I do declare.  Also loved “American Apple Pie” paired with “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “The Birthday Cupcake” paired with “Troop Beverly Hills” (if you are a girl who was born in the 80s, don’t even tell me you don’t know how to do “The Freddie”.)

I’m going to need some bubbly and some Bogart, stat.
