Like I said yesterday, Bread & Wine: A Love Letter to Life Around the Table has some really wonderful recipes in it (the Gaia cookies are change-your-life good) and also, the recipe for magic. Really. Magic.

Flour plus salt plus water makes bread.

That’s right folks- the same ingredients that also make paper mâché also make fresh, crusty, fluffy bread. I took the bait a few weeks ago, mixed said ingredients in a bowl with yeast, it sat in my kitchen overnight, I mixed it with my bare hands once and after some time in the oven in my beloved blue le creuset, I had bread. Carbs, in my world, are always magic and this just proves it.

So that you can have this recipe for magic (and many others) in your hot little hands, I am doing a giveaway of Bread & Wine! Simply leave a comment below about your favorite recipe, a food you absolutely love or something you would love to learn to make and I will select a winner at random to receive a copy of the book!

The giveaway will close at noon on Saturday and the winner will be announced shortly after!

Lately I have been digging on recipes I have gotten not from a book, or the Internet, but from Carmen! Yes Carmen the one and only… She ownes Carnens restaurant on Clay. She says that we are now part of her family, so she shares recipes with me. Gypsy and I made an Angel Food cake the other day. 11 egg whites. I mentioned I didn’t throw away 11 egg yokes. She gave me a really yummy hollandaise sauce recipe.

I love quinoa! I love it in a kale salad I created and I especially love Quinoa and Pistachio Salad with Moroccan Pesto from allrecipes.com. I’m not sure why it’s a salad since I serve it hot. For leftovers I’ll add it to a green salad which I guess makes it part of a salad. I especially love the pistachios you add at the end. I can’t wait to read Bread & Wine and make some of the recipes.

I love making a quiche. It’s the perfect main dish for a fun brunch. And with Easter around the corner that is what I intent on making. You can fill it with tons of veggies and a little bacon if you want, but i simply love making it a little thicker with extra Swiss cheese and eggs. Serve it with a simple green salad and maybe some asparagus on the side! And now maybe your bread recipe with it!

My favorite guilty pleasure recipe is Italian Bread Salad – crusty ciabatta toasted with garlic butter, cubed and doused in fresh bruschetta and lots of balsamic 🙂

I just made a really yummy manicotti recipe Thursday night! I sautéed some bacon with spinach and onions and added to a ricotta/Parmesan and cream cheese mixture to fill the pasta. I sautéed some more spinach to add on top with marinara sauce and topped with mozzarella and more Parmesan cheese and baked till nice and bubbly!! I was disappointed I didn’t make enough for leftovers because it was one of the best dishes I’ve ever came up with!!!
