RIP Mr. Cub

I walked over to Wrigley on Saturday morning, wanting to see the marquee in person. My grandfather, a die-hard Cubs fan, always said that Ernie Banks was a “damn fine ballplayer and gentleman” so I figured I could pay tribute for the both of us. It was relatively early but the sidewalks were filled with people, young and old, in their blue and red. It was 43 degrees, practically a miracle for Chicago in January, and the day felt so hopeful. Hopeful for Spring…and maybe just hopeful for the Cubs that this is their year. Now that would be a miracle.

RIP Mr. Cub. Let’s play two.

There is just no mood/occasion/day that isn’t improved by Mr. Billy Joel. There have been so many dance parties in our home to his music that we should just consider him our song. I like that- Billy Joel is our song.

Chicago + Billy + dancing like a maniac in my seat = dreamiest Chicago night ever.

Wrigley Touring Saturday

Did you know that for only $25, you can spend an hour and a half in Wrigley Field, learning its nooks and crannies and hearing about its 100 year journey? We had out of town visitors this weekend so we checked it out and the tour was awesome. Not only was our guide entertaining and super knowledgable but we got to see places that just aren’t open to the public on game days. To be clear: Wrigley needs a major reno. I was actually really surprised by how run down some parts were but it was really cool to get the opportunity to see the press box and players dugout & club house in what has got to be darn close to its original form.

Great photos of Wrigley in years past lined the hallway to the Press Box. Apparently, a ski jumping competition was once held on the field. And women’s baseball! I love A League of Their Own!

Inside the Friendly Confines are one of my favorite places to be and that helped make for a nice part of the weekend.

After a 9 innings on a gorgeous 75 degree Friday with my family, I realized that Wrigley is with the Abe Lincoln statue and the backside of Adler Planetarium as one of my very favorite places in the city.

My dear friend Rosemary has always been the kindest, sweetest woman I know and now she’s created a blog to share daily doses of earnest inspiration.

Thanks to my friend Kate, I had fresh mint on hand to make one of these flavored waters.

Don’t these beer cocktails look refreshing?

The Dark Sky App is amazing- because really, what I really need to know is what’s happening outside right now and for the next hour.
