Salutation Nation

Salutation Nation brought out around 300 yogis to Oak Street Beach for an hour of vinyasa.  We are spoiled little moopigs- yoga to the sound of lapping waves, catching a glimpse of the Chicago skyline every time we went into down-dog.  So not over how gorgeous it was.

There couldn’t have been a better start to a Saturday.

The Situation at MSU?

Nice relaxing Saturday morning, just cheering on my alma mater when the camera pans to…

The Situation with the Izzo’s.

Sweet goodness.  What has the world come to and how the hell did someone from the Jersey Shore find their way to East Lansing?

I can hear the jokes about our academic standards now.

Anyways and always, Go Green.

In It

My mom always says that, when she can see I’m, like, working something out in my head. She’s like, “You’re in it right now” and I’m looking at you telling this story, and you’re definitely in it.

Garden State

I’ve been in it for awhile now, to the point where I don’t know what it was before it or what it’s going to be after it.

Which doesn’t even make sense.

I think tonight is a popcorn, curl up in a blanket, watch Garden State kind of grey night.  Yeah.

Chicago Marathon 2011- An Update

I haven’t said much about my marathon training this year.  But I’m still running it and training is going right along.  Like I’ve said before, I’m not making any claims to be a perfect marathon runner.  I don’t follow Hal Higdon’s training guide (people literally gasp when I tell them this), I only run 3-4 days a week (again, gasping) and I am convinced that doing copious amounts of yoga helped me tackle that 26.2 last year just as much as my actual long runs did.

So, I’m running, practicing yoga 2-3 times week and every long run has felt really good.  Strong.  I want to cross that finish line and make every mile before that strong.  I was scared out of my mind last year so I think this year is going to be a whole lot more fun-  I know I can do it, I know it’s amazing and I can’t wait to roll out of bed and head to Columbus Drive and Monroe to take my spot at the starting line.  Just going to focus on staying strong in the meantime.

Topshop Tomorrow

Topshop opens tomorrow!  At 10:30am!

The eyesore that was the renovation of the old Borders is finally over and Chicagoans finally have access to this British clothing retailer without having to wait for shipping.  Yessss….

The space has been done for a few days and it looks so shiny and new and lovely.  Obviously, I am working at 10:30am so this won’t be a “doors opening and I’m in” situation but methinks that I’ll swing in on my way home from work to check it out.  Shopping can be my cardio tomorrow.

Summer Send-Off

Last night, we attended a cook-out at the home of friends in Lincoln Park.  We’ve spent several Memorial/Labor Days with them and I must say, I’m a sucker for the rooftop element to this gathering.

This Labor Day isn’t messing around with its “Hey, summer’s over!” message so it was an evening for sweaters over dresses and shorts, an evening that forced our hosts to bring out the patio heater when blankets just couldn’t cut it.  But it was also a night for burgers on the grill, 312, Molly’s Cupcakes and Garrett’s Popcorn.

(Note: Ryan and I were craving Garrett’s yesterday so instead of buying it for ourselves, we grabbed a bag to bring as a host gift.  It was a HUGE hit- after sharing a few handfuls with us, our hosts tucked it away to have for themselves today.  So, even if you live in Chicago, Garrett’s is a clutch host gift.)

Last night was the perfect send-off to summer- one last hurrah.  But if we’re being honest, I’m totally eyeing the sweater section of my closet and excited for the cool crisp days ahead.
